More Than Shelter For Seniors® Wins SAGE Award for “Program of the Year”

Costa Mesa, CA — More Than Shelter For Seniors® (MTSFS®) was named Program of the Year by the Building Industry Association's Seniors Housing Council at the Senior Achievement and General Excellence (SAGE) Awards dinner November 12.

“This is a great honor, to be recognized for our programs by the Seniors Housing Council,” said Tim Carpenter, Executive Director of MTSFS, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create and provide life enhancing intellectual amenities for low- and moderate-income seniors.

“What differentiates our programs from others is our ability to engage people by offering classes that not only teach skills, but require them to use them. For example, rather than [just] teaching a senior how to write a screenplay in our writing classes, they write one and a film is made from it—the best films are screened at the ‘We’re Still Here Revue’ each year. We use our events as semester-culminating motivators to get people to learn skills and apply them,” he said.

The Seniors Housing Council, an official council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California, presents the SAGE Award annually to an executive, community, or program that has made innovative, extraordinary contributions to the seniors’ housing industry, and that best demonstrates compassion and commitment to the senior population of Southern California.
