Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles voters said “No” to Prop H, narrowly missing the two-thirds majority vote required to pass the $1 billion affordable housing bond. Campaign co-chair G. Allan Kingston said the real loss falls on the citizens of Los Angeles, adding that the bond would have changed the lives of thousands of Angelenos for the better. “Prop H funds, which would have been used to create permanent housing for the homeless, affordable housing, and provide first-time homebuyer assistance to thousands of working families, was a much-needed first step in creating a better Los Angeles,” said Kingston, President & CEO of Century Housing. “By funding these housing programs with $100 million each year for the next ten years, we could have made advances in the fight to end homelessness, and also in solving the housing crisis facing working families in our city. When a full-time wage earner has to choose between food for her family, and paying the rent, for example, something is very, very wrong,” Kingston said. “We will continue our efforts in creating housing affordable to working families at all income levels,” Kingston added. “While as campaign co-chair I am disappointed, I do not consider this a failure, but rather a setback in finding a funding solution to the affordable housing shortage,” he said. “We are not giving up this battle.”
